Brandon Valley’s Girls Tennis team completed their season in early October. During the last events of the season, the varsity team placed 10th and 7th at State and the ESD Conferences. Although it was a rebuilding year, the girls felt they accomplished a lot individually and together throughout the season.
Many a battle was fought on the court for these girls. Although there were not many on the podium at State and ESD, many of the girls had upsets and hard-fought wins throughout the season. The Varsity team has six top players and two alternates at Flights 7 and 8. The team’s Flight 1 player, Keera Kriech said she “had a lot of hard matches but [has] definitely grown and become better” because of them. Although she played at a difficult level, she still found success and fought hard! Similar feelings came from many of the other girls. Sophia Menden at Flight 2 said this season was “one of my best yet.” Her favorite part about the season included “all the suburban rides to Rapid City” and hanging out with the team. Many of the girls feel the same. “My favorite part of the season was getting to go to Rapid and bonding with the team” Addison Berry, one of the team’s top JV players stated. She also welcomes new players. The girls would love to have everyone who wants to play on the team; Berry reassures prospective players that “you don’t have to be amazing to be a part of it”. They invite anyone to join!
The girls have a team that goes further than just the court: pool parties, eating meals with each other, and long suburban rides were highlights for many of the girls. The tennis season is short, so the girls spend a lot of time together. Thankful for all the memories, senior Makenna Beck said “It goes by fast, enjoy your time together while it lasts.” Many of the girls left the 2024 season with unforgettable memories, lasting friendships, and invaluable lessons.
Best of luck to the remaining girls’ tennis players on their rest and work during the off-season and for success next year!
