Do you ever wish that you could help make a difference when it comes to the environment and keeping our planet clean? Well, here at Brandon Valley High School you can do just that by joining the Environmental Club! This organization is dedicated to conserving the environment through projects and activities at our school, as well as in the local community. This includes monthly trash pickups, weekly recycling, and new things to come. The Environmental Club is run by Mrs. Haiar and senior Emeline Risty, as well as multiple other students and staff at Brandon Valley who are all very passionate about this cause. When asked about why they joined, many of the members stated that they wanted to be able to help clean up the environment and make a difference in the world. Joining this club helps them achieve just that.

For example, one event this club does is a clothing drive in the winter. Emeline stated that this is her favorite project so far because they are able to collect clothing for those who need it rather than it getting otherwise thrown away. On Thursday the 19th, the club also had a trash pickup event around the school. They all gathered with trash bags and gloves and set out on a walk around the school grounds. Many interesting things were found such as a dirty sock, coffee cups, glass, plastic food wrappers, schoolwork, and a lot of pencils. This is an example of a message this club wants to send to the students and community in Brandon. They want to encourage students to think about recycling or discarding trash in a proper way so that it doesn’t cause harm to the environment.

One goal the club has this year is hosting a company called Millenium Recycling. The club as well as the school will be able to learn more about recycling and bring more awareness to recycling in our school.

Overall, this is a very successful group of students who put in hard work for the goals that they have. Definitely consider joining the Environmental Club this school year. It is a great way for you to get involved, make friends, and make a difference!
