Festival of Bands

On Saturday, October 5th, Brandon Valley Marching Lynx competed in the Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls, SD. Festival of Bands is a marching band competition with schools from South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota. A total of 26 bands competed!

They first performed during prelims at 5:15 P.M., winning first place in their class with a score of 83.05 and won “Outstanding Percussion.”

That night during finals they again got first place with a score of 83.85 and won “Outstanding Percussion.”

They performed the show Coursing Through my Veins, which shows the struggles and overcoming of addiction. Mr. Nettested told Keloland, “We start with a euphoric moment and then we hurdle into this painful moment, and then finally we’re into our recovery and recovering from that addiction.”

The show includes songs like “Toxic” by Britney Spears, “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails, “Chandelier” by Sia, and “Toxicity” by System of the Down, with solos by Tabitha Choate on the English Horn and Will McCarthy on Tuba.
