Smunkle first appeared in the band room in early fall, and instantly became a beloved icon of the Brandon Valley Band. Every single day for around three months, a new Smunkle would appear on the whiteboard.

Throughout the months that he was present, Smunkle was a humorous and wholesome addition to the band room, adding an air of suspense every day with people wondering what new variation of Smunkle would appear.

He was an interesting creature, able to be revived after being erased. One of his first quotes being:
“You thought you could erase me? The Great Smunkle?”

He would often appear in different outfits, especially around Halloween time. He appeared as a vampire, a pumpkin, and also Jason Vorhees from the popular Friday the 13th horror franchise.

His demise came early this November. Likely as a push for the whiteboard to be cleansed of arbitrary markings and drawings, the band director asked for Smunkle to be retired from the board. And thus, one final drawing was made, where Smunkle said goodbye to all of us, one final time.

The death of Smunkle was felt throughout much of the band, but was quickly overshadowed by the current events, such as the upcoming band concert.Smunkle was truly an icon of the band, and in his absence, people have attempted to repl›ace what we once had. Drawings of Plankton and Patrick Star from the show Spongebob Squarepants have become scarce but genuine attempts at trying to recreate the magic of Smunkle.Smunkle represented more than just a random drawing, it represented the band, and the members in it. Smunkle will live on in our hearts forever.
